smartie We created this forum for a special reason. I've spoken to a few of you before moving forward and everyone seems to be on the same page. We came up with the Topic "The La' Addiction, Get Buzzed". Because it seemed to describe best what we want to do. There are many of us who get addicted to these boards, not just this one, many others. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You enjoy socailizing with people, and now technology has allowed us to socailize with the world right from the comforts and safety of our homes and offices. Its better than going out to socialize where the threat of danger lurks. Be proud that you can say that you have friends from all over the country. We all are members of La-Entertainment.com for a particular reason. I would like to use this forum to allow us all to tell our guest what it was that attracted us to this board? why do we hang around? Where do we see this site going? What about the members? Whats different with this board compared to the others? etc. This forum will become the "ONLY" forum accessable to guest. This is all they get to read on this board and what they read will determine whether they would be interested in becoming a member or not. Aside from that, and probably more importantly, it will show us, the creators, administrators, moderators and host that we are on the right track. That what we are doing isn't in vain. It will keep us motivated and focused. I look forward to reading what everyone has to say about La-Entertainment.com. Please do not use this Forum to talk or agree with fellow members instead, talk to our Guest! Please keep in mind, this is not the place to critic the board, we have a forum for that already. This site is all about opportunity. That is the main reason I became "addicted" so to speak.

In the past with other boards, I had made attempts to be more involved than just a simple "poster". Repeatedly I was told that "it's not the direction we want to go" or "no one would be interested in that idea". But here, ideas and concepts are appreciated, accepted, and given a chance to breath. Do they all work? No. But atleast they get a fair chance.

We have a pretty diverse group of members here and at times we don't agree with each other. But the difference here, as opposed to other sites, is that we don't stoop to name calling and childish attacks. Instead, we are mature enough to accept different viewpoints and move on to the next topic.

There is also the "Artists Spotlight" feature. You can check there and learn about new artists who are sure to make an impact in their respective genre's. This will be updated regularily so check there often to see who's next to blow up before they do.

Another thing that makes this site unique is that it is more interactive than the others. At any given time, via specially designed challenges, members can be and are awarded with prizes such as cd's, concert tickets, and money. In addittion to all of that, there are the artists interviews. This site allows me to help take my radio interviews to a higher level. The goal of these is to allow members the chance to interact with their favorite artists. So far we have done so with Angel the Original Cover Girl, Lil Suzy, and are currently featuring Lisette Melendez as well as having my interview with Lisa Lisa online. Plus, interviews that are planned for the future will continually make this feature get better.

The other real drawing point for me is that I am allowed to post my weekly radio playlists on the site. It may not sound like much but it actually is a valuable tool for Freestyle artists and Hip Hop artists to keep track of their records and the progress the music is making. And for the fans, it opens up another resource to use for knowledge of the music.

Puls, who needs E-Bay? We have the La Classifieds. Pretty self explanatory.

Lastly, people always ask "where is so and so performing". Well that question is also answered here. The site offers an up to date listing of all artists booked by La Entertainment, the cities, and the dates. Also included on the calendar are bookings of artists not represented by La Entertainment. This is a great resource for the fans.

I have made some cool acquaintances and friends via this site and that is something that is invaluable. In the industry I am in, networking is a necessity. And this site is a perfect tool for that. The potential is limitless. So don't be left out. Join now and get all the 411 you need and more.

I like the intimate little club vibe this place has. You get to know people's writing style quickly and you can almost hear a voice in your head when they post...which is kinda scary at times, lol.

ONE MAJOR THING TO NOTE this is not just another FREESTYLE site...thank the friggin' Gods! There are freestyle fans here but they are not the mentally limited, *ss kissing YES MEN and WOMEN who inhabit the other major freestyle sites.

With the posting incentives Latif offers you can actually benefit from posting here in more ways than one.

i couldnt have said it better - cuz in other boards you get to know people are parts of clicks but here i know kaz is kaz and mari is mari and so on and while we will debate 3 days from sunday - itz great to know that you are communicating with adults who have points of views as oppose to following the populous and what not.

Due to my schedule I don't always have time to socialize, this board has given me the opportunity to meet a diverse group of interesting people. I may not come into the site as much as others but one thing I've noticed this site is always being upgraded with new and exciting ideas. Their is always new people, contributing great new topics. I absolutely love this site. When I had to move to California I was really depressed because I had to leave the scene in NY. But thanks to this board I have taken the scene with me. I met some really cool people on this site who I actually feel really close to. We've had a few little disputes but it so far has always ended in love. I remember when this site consisted of just Latif, Kazzeo, Diamond, Melissa, Barbie and myself. (sorry if I missed anyone). It was tight knit and as much as the rest of the crew wanted to see the board row with members, I didn't say anything, but I wanted it to stay with just us. Sorry for being so selfish, I really didn't want to share this site with anyone else because I was scared that we might let in negativity and before you know it this board would've went to sh*t. Well I was wrong. We now have 100+ members and I feel everyone is great. God Bless :wave2:

I think there is many reasons to join this site...I'll start off with the members.I remember when it was just a couple of us just posting and getting to know eachother thru Latifs great Ideas of doing so...Then as Ideas staring to come to light and things such as the challenges made great for competing but in a good way and fun....I have really learned alot about each member and am so happy the list of members are growing ....As pete said its not all one track minds in here we all have different views and we dont always agree and we can be adults and debate and not just be like the yes men people pete was speaking of...

As for the interview section is one of my favs in the site where you can read a great Interview done by Kazzeo and get real informative info on ur fav artist..Now if that is not enough the bonus is you get to ask the artist questions you always wanted to know and the artist responds ..I think that is so awsome to be able to read the replys and learn more ...SO if you dont register youll be missing out on that also...

Now for the artist spot light I think thats a great way to get artist to grab attention of their fans and take advavtage of that offer Latif has set fourth....Its great for the fans too to see whats new and what is out there ...

There is so much like the poem section I have really loved to read the forum very talented and creative minds so come join to show us all how creative you are...

The welcome I received on this site was like no other. I'm not a heavy poster but I do enjoy the reads on the threads in here. I think the site is definitley more robust than anything out there and Latif seems to be going to great lengths to keep this site different from all the others and having fun at the same time. Many look at me as the creator of this site, but in all actuality the creators are none other than our very own members. We have been extremely fortunate to be blessed with such an intelligent and diversified group of people. The views and ideas that grow from this site are genius, and prove what the power of the combined mind can accomplish. Though my background carries a large Freestyle influence, La-Entertainment.com isn’t based soley on Freestyle, but rather on the entertainment business in gerneral. I would personally like to give thanks to all our Members, who keep the site flowing with life. Our Moderators, who dedicated themselves to this site and worked their way up to their current positions so that they may contribute in a bigger way to something they feel is more than just a mere “Message Board” To our Hostess, who goes out of her way to greet our new members and makes them comfortable on the board. To Angel, who tolerates the early mornings and late nights I spend, not only working La’Entertainment, but on developing this site. And last but not least, the one who probably does the most physical labor yet is hardly ever recognized, WebMaster Dave. Not only is he our WebMaster, but more importantly, one of my best friends. "The label freestyle itself is an insult made up by club owners back in the days when it was new and struggling. I've heard it myself while at the Red Parrot, 1018's, Studio 54, you name it, back in the days when this music was all the rage. They coined it as a way of describing that "Free music those latin kids were handing out. You know that dance style music?" at the clubs.

Billy Shakespeare said "A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet", so apply that to the music being put out now. You can take sh*t and place it in a nice box with expensive wrapping paper and a gold bow and try to sell it as perfume but once the box is opened all you're gonna have is sh*t."

We've only been members off this board for a short while but in that short while we've noticed a huge difference between this forum and "those other" forums. Everyone here is extremely friendly, welcoming and have great sense of humors :biggrin2: . It's a shame that other boards don't reflect that. :idunno: All you get at these other sites is Negativity, Negativity, Negativity. :angry: Ugh! Here everyone is respectful and it's mostly about having fun and laughing at all the silly jokes and stories that people come up with like in the "Let's write a story" topic. That one is hilarious! Being that we weren't big fans of messageboards and forums, it took us a while to find one that actually is pretty cool. It was very rare that we joined a messageboard but we are glad we did. :chugs:

As each day goes by, two things happen. 1) More people take advantage of the uniqueness of our message board and 2) The other sites talk crap yet steal ideas from us. Obviously, this is the most quickly growing and impactful site within the Freestyle community. But we are way more than just Freestyle. You need to join and see what it is we are all about.

Did it make you take a step back and think “Okay, the music I’m putting out is Dance but it has a Pop feel to it. And yet it's identifying with the Freestyle audience greatly even though I’m not exactly gearing it towards them and still they’re supporting it and picking up on it the most”.
I really try hard not to focus on that because then it would trip me out. You know I try to go in one direction and then everything else starts to happen. That function trips me out too much so I try not to deal with it. To me, I appreciate it. Because if I’m trying to do something and other people pick up on it, to me that’s just added audience. So whatever happens, happens. I just love it.


ANGEL, THE ORIGINAL COVER GIRL

Why do you think music produced in America seems to be more popular overseas than it is here in the United States?
Well all over the world it is accepted on a higher level. I would just say it’s because we make incredible music. We have so much ethnic variety in this country and you get all these different elements in our type of music that you don’t get in other parts of the world. Not only that, we move with the times. We change our music. Most of the music in different parts of the world has not changed. Because if you think about it, Latin music doesn’t change that much. You could listen to a song from the 1950’s and it’s similar to the music of today in that country. But our music changes. Every decade it changes. It evolves.


LIL SUZY

Now let’s get into the latest project. Tell me about the S.A.L. Project.
Well the S.A.L. Project is Suzy, Angel, and Lisette. It’s myself, Angel (formerly of the Cover Girls), and Lisette Melendez. We’re in the process of recording a song called “Me And The Girls”. It’s just a fun party song about our guys leaving us to go out. We want to go with them but they don’t want us to go so we decide to go out ourselves and have a good time. You know, get dressed and wear something sexy. And that’s it. Screw the men. (laughs)


LISETTE MELENDEZ

I think a couple of the things that made you unique when you first came out was that, at the time, there were a lot of high pitched, whiny sounding girls out and you sounded nothing like that. The other thing was that you emerged over a new style of production which was heavily Hip Hop influenced with it’s use of loops and Breakbeats.
Well that was the problem in the beginning. Because of everyone sounding alike with the high pitched 10 year old sound, not that there’s anything wrong with that. But here I am and it runs in my family, from my sisters to my mother, that bass in the voice. So when I came along with “Together Forever”, no label wanted to touch it because I didn’t sound like anyone else. So I couldn’t be categorized as an R & B singer because I wasn’t African American but then at the same time I couldn’t be put in the Freestyle category because I didn’t have the high pitched sound. So I couldn’t get a record deal. Finally, after 8 months of searching, I got one. People are afraid of taking chances and nobody wants to hear anything different. They want to feel comfortable with what they already know. No one wants to take a chance with something different. And no label wanted to touch it. Luckily I did get picked up and it took off the way it did. To this day, I still thank God that I got a deal and I’m here today. It’s been a long journey and it’s been difficult because with all the downloading and bootlegging, record sales are rough right now. With Eminem and 50 Cent, all the Rap has expanded and blown up so much that there’s really no room for a Dance artist or a Hip Hop artist unless you’re Ashanti or anyone that’s blown up like that. So it is kind of difficult but I’m not a quitter. I do some writing and that’s why I’m dibbling and dabbling in everything. Like I said, my album is going to be one big journey. When you play it from beginning to end, it’s not going to be just one style. It’ll have everything in there. I think I may have said a little too much because I’m not really supposed to be talking about it yet.

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve heard from you. So what’s on your plate so to speak?
Well my friends tell me that I’m really good at hiding. Obviously. But primarily, when I released my first single “Out Of Control” which was so many years ago, like in the mid 80’s, I had done some acting. Even before the release of the record, I considered myself a performer, even more so than a singer, because I act as well. I’ve been doing that since I was a child. So I took some time to, not necessarily get away from the music because I’m always recording, but to also hone in on my acting skills. I have a partner and we write screenplays and work on shorts. Also, I wrote a one woman show that I am looking to put up in a couple of months. Plus I’m in another theater production that began touring in March. So it’s just been a lot of honing in on the acting and writing side of the entertainment business and trying to work out some deals.

Not only that, we have been able to do something that many artist were against for years, and that's agreeing to join our membership and allow our members to ask questions for an entire month. Questions are not answered generally, but rather individually and direct to the one asking. Even if frequenting these boards aren't for you, at least join. It's fast and free. Besides, you never know what artist will become our next member!

Why be adddicted to "La La Land"????????/

I have been a member of several sites throughout the years as my Friday morning "Wake Up Dancing" radio/webcast benefitted from the new exposure that the new technology was bringing it. I was particularly loyal to one website (CF) because that was the first one that I was introduced to and I received tons of requests and plugs for my radio shows...I gues that I'm a creature of habit...

I then got involved with a couple of other sites (LF and FP) and was elated to see some of our Freestyle buddies visiting all of the websites...it seemed like a true coalition...

Then one day, seemingly overnight-drama happened. Things were not as fun as they used to be. Between members being "banned", users being asked for donations, and several artists being bashed online-the fun was gone. It was no longer much fun to read things as once again, instead of artists, fans and promoters supporting each other, it seemed as if more were interested in kicking others-especially when they were down.

I still frequent the other websites, but here is where "La-Entertainment" is unique...

I had numerous conversations with Latif leading into the launch of the new site. We bounced ideas off of each other. Some were silly and some were dead on. This has been an innovation form of the previous boards. To be able to have discussed ideas with Latif and then watching as he actually followed up with the behind the scenes work to make it happen has been a tremendously powerful impact. This site is as diverse as the music business itself. It's positive tone is a welcome alternative to what sometimes happens elsewhere. It really does seem to feature a more personable and relaxing atmosphere.

Of course I still post elsewhere and Latif is cool with that...I don't visit the sites as often as I used too and Latif is cool with that too...the bottom line is, this website was created to fill a void that was becoming apparent at the other sites. When others accused Latif of using this site for his own business interests, they failed to point out that he provided links to the others...when others seemed to be looking for "support", Latif and Company offered rewards...

I know Latif, Angel and many others personnally-it makes a world of difference when you feel like a friend and not so much a client...

Jack...your site allowed for my show to be exposed to the world...I will always be grateful...the drama sometimes is too intense and occasionally disrespectful, but it all can't be blamed on you...sometimes "free speech" can bite you in the...you have shown me much respect...

MO...you have also been great to me...your site was just what was needed when the others began having dramatic issues...I can only think of one situation that has disturbed me throughout the years...that's a credit to you and the rest of your team...

The crew at FP was headed by a fellow Chicagoan whose heart was in the right place...

But.....................

La-Entertainment has been able to merge several genres of music and entertainment facets...to have had a part in the ground level and watch it grow has been an exciting and rewarding process...to get personal messages from people who don't really know you, but show you respect based on words fed through a keyboard, that is something else...this is more than just a message board, it's the fulfillment of hours of imagination, energy, patience and passion...all done in my opinion through unselfish means...

Just like back in the days before Freestyle managed to go from a major force in the business to what it eventually became...a footnote in the pages of Billboard magazine.

I will continue to support the music and artists as I have since I first hit the airwaves in 1985...and as much as I will continue to juggle the various sites and message boards, "La-Entertainment" will always have the top line reserved in my computers listing of "favorites" in the internet community.

Currently we have under 300 members, probably the least members of all the other boards. But one thing I can say, our members are real members. They are not make-believe registrations just to make this board seem popular. goodness la addiction.. thats me i need my fill of la radio everyday .. i promote la radio on my myspace on my migente thru word of mouth , everyone i speak to knows of la radio cause i dont shut up a couple have signed up and love it .

it actually gave me a place to be with people at or about my age , who have respect and love the same things i do freestyle.. WHEN the chatroom has people in it its great , and when new people sign on everyone is oh so nice makes the people feel so welcomed i know i did !

i will continue to promote la radio and its dj's !!!!

I started frequenting messageboards back when clubfreestyle was the !@#$. I heard about the La' Board but was so fed up with the non-sense happening on CF and all the fake people on it. I even found out that the 3+ thousand members on it (who i never saw, just the same 10) were made up by the former owner jack g...dork! I stayed away from the boards for a few years then followed a link from la' radio not know that it was going to take me to the la'board. i use to just minimize the screen and listen, but i never wanted to joing the board. then about 4 months ago i started reading the topics and noticed that this board was much different. i then found out that it was owned by Latif Mercado (Duh! La entertainment.. La radio etc)
I noticed the content of the post were different. there was no bickering going on and it seemed like people were just chilling out, chattin in the chatroom listening to La' radio.
The muisc sort of cooled everyone out. I though La' radio was new, then found out that it has been around for a while. At first i thought it was just a radio show maybe once a week, then I found out that it ran all day everyday... wow. I also expected it to sound bad, it sounds better than the radio on my stereo. Im glad La' radio is here and I want it to stay so I want to tell everyone to tell everyone, and have them tell everyone and so on and so on... Lol

The people in here are real cool too and it seems as though La' entertainment is the force behind it which I've known about La' Ent. because of their affiliation with lil suzy and angel (cover girls) so i am confident that this station will be here for a while. so cam on everyone, pass the word and listen to all the new Freestyle still being made.
